San Antonio Pets Alive! is filled with gratitude because of the amount of support we have received from our community during this season of giving!

During the first week of October, 66 cats and dogs found their forever family during Bissell's Pet Foundation Empty the Shelters adoption event! We also recently held a Feline Friday Adoption Special, and 15 cats and kittens went home to their forever families that day.

Our friends from Hotel Emma, Republic National Distributing Company, Alamo City Furry Invasion, and Bar-B-Cutie restaurant all organized events this month benefitting San Antonio Pets Alive!.

Thank you for your unconditional support and encouragement for our lifesaving mission. Together, we are saving precious lives and making a difference in our community!

A bill to humanely limit the ways in which dogs can be tethered outdoors in Texas has been signed into law. The bill takes effect on January 18^th, well into the cold weather for many parts of Texas including the San Antonio area. 

The law bans the use of heavy chains, weights or improperly fitted collars. It also requires animals housed outside to have adequate shelter that keeps them safe from the weather and allows them to sit, stand and move around comfortably.

More importantly, it also gives law enforcement the right to remove a dog immediately that is tethered inhumanely and in danger of dying. This was often a death sentence for dogs who were left out in the elements with no way to seek shade, water or food.

I am hoping that I will see the day that dogs and cats are treated as treasured family members by all people. Having a pet is a gift and their love and loyalty is unlike no other.

We are so excited to share with you that our fifth Headin’ Home transport of 2021 is departing to Wisconsin on Monday, November 15th. Our "Headin' Home" transport program provides some of our dogs the opportunity to get out of Texas and move to other states with available space. 

Will you please help sponsor a dog for $250, provide partial sponsorship, and/or help spread the word? This fee covers boarding costs, health certifications, vaccinations, and preventative care, and the fees for our transport partner. We have raised sponsorship for 8 dogs, but we still need sponsorships for 38 dogs!

During the first week of October, BISSELL Pet Foundation sponsored reduced adoption fees. A total of 66 kittens, cats, puppies, and dogs participated in this adoption event and have been enjoying their forever homes! Thank you, BISSELL Pet Foundation, for hosting our Empty the Shelters adoption event. Because of you, so many deserving cats and dogs found their forever homes! 

A very special thank you to Alterman, Inc. who coordinated a volunteer day at our Petco Love Adoption Center this month. We are so grateful for their support, time, and efforts. One volunteer fell in love with Lolo and adopted her, taking her home that day! 

Volunteers can help at our adoption center, 151 location, medical clinic, administrative office, and take part in a wide range of remote opportunities. Share your talents to help the homeless dogs and cats of San Antonio!

Thank you so much to our incredible friends, Alamo City Furry Invasion (ACFI), for your overwhelming support! Earlier this month, ACFI hosted their annual convention and donated a portion of their proceeds to San Antonio Pets Alive!, nearing almost $7,000! We appreciate ACFI for their continued support of our lifesaving work.

San Antonio Pets Alive! is a nonprofit organization that relies on donations and support from individuals, groups, businesses, corporations and foundations to fund our programs, supplies and operational expenses. Your donation means the world to us!

This year, leave an extra seat at your Thanksgiving table open for one of SAPA!’s precious dogs through our Staycation program. The SAPA! Staycation program permits an adoptable dog to enjoy life outside of the shelter for an afternoon or a few days.

No one should have to spend Thanksgiving alone, especially our loving animals. Please open up your hearts and homes this Thanksgiving and invite one of our amazing pups to your Thanksgiving dinner!
