As you have seen, there have unfortunately been MANY Code Reds in the last few weeks. SAPA! defines Code Red
when 25 or more dogs and puppies are being released by San Antonio Animal Care Services for possible euthanasia due to lack of space. As a supporter of our organization, we believe it is important to inform you of the current situation in our city. Innocent
puppies are being placed on this list in addition to healthy, adoptable dogs. Since the last week in June, we pulled eleven moms and their puppies into our care. They are staying at our Building One Rescue Center and Medical Care Center, which is not the ideal
environment for these moms and small pups with weak immune systems. We hope to find fosters soon for these families.
Summers are never easy, but we have faced our fair share of challenges this year. Our lifesaving continues despite facing recent challenges of broken air conditioning units, flooding, staff shortages, distemper outbreaks, and high medical
expense bills. We are grateful to partner in BISSELL Pet Foundation’s Empty the Shelters National Crisis summer adoption event this month. Many of our animals have found wonderful families to call their own.
Thank you for standing by us through thick and thin, in good and bad. Our animals and supporters motivate us to keep going and to be the voice for the animals that need us the most.
With hope and gratitude,

Foster of the Month - Michele Villarreal
|
|
Congratulations to our fantastic foster, Michele Villereal, for being nominated by San Antonio Pets Alive!'s
foster team as July's foster of the month!
Michele was inspired to help animals in need after losing her beloved dog of 18 years, Kylie. Michele said, "I foster because my heart isn't ready to adopt yet. I miss having a pet around to keep me company, so I decided to open up
my home and help animals in need."
Michele is always willing to lend a helping hand. She fosters puppies and large dogs recovering from injuries. In between fostering, she willingly picks up pups from our different locations and takes them to adoption events to help
them get adopted. Michele also volunteers to take her fosters to news interviews and shares her fostering experience to encourage others. She is currently fostering Bailey, an adult dog now that is healing from a femoral head ostectomy, and is currently undergoing
heartworm treatment. In addition, she is temporarily fostering a puppy from our Petco adoption center.
We are grateful for Michele and are lucky to have her help! Michele has been a foster for less than a year and has already made a significant difference to our lifesaving mission.

We need your help! Our lifesaving efforts have not slowed down. Many puppies, dogs, kittens, and cats urgently
need foster families. Support, supplies, and your foster's medical care are provided by San Antonio Pets Alive!.

Droopy
Droopy is an adorable 3-month-old puppy. He is outgoing and lovable! He is a goofy, social pup! Droppy always has a smile on his face! He is eager to explore the
world outside of the kennel. He is at a great age to be in a foster home and be with someone who can teach him manners and be ready to find his forever family.

Java
This momma is adoption ready! She would do great in a foster home, while she waits for her forever home. Java has a beautiful dilute
calico coat and her sweet personality, she would be the perfect addition to a family that can give her all the head scratches and sun-patch cat napping that she desires.

|
Daisy
Daisy is a 1-year-old female who is intact and weighs 50 lbs. She came in with her six puppies that have since weaned, and she is working on drying up so she can
be spayed! She is so sweet and gentle with everyone she meets. She has done well meeting male and female dogs.

Juno
Juno likes to keep to herself but will head bump you for pets. Her raspy voice is the cutest thing. She enjoys her naps and likes to people watch. She has been
in our care for more than 100 days and has not had any luck finding her forever family.
