Wrinkles, a recent rescue, was discovered as a stray in distressing conditions: severe hair loss, eyes almost crusted shut, overgrown nails, and scabs covering his body. It's evident he suffered from severe neglect and likely was abandoned to fend for himself.
Although he appears to be a Shih Tzu, Wrinkles lacks the typical long, soft fur, with hair only on his chin and parts of his tail. Fortunately, he tested negative for mange, and with proper medication, his skin condition will improve over time.
Currently, Wrinkles is in a caring foster home, where he's receiving the attention and care he needs to recover from his ailments and grow his fur back.
As we observe National Animal Cruelty Awareness Week, Wrinkles' story sheds light on the harsh reality faced by many rescued animals, especially here in San Antonio.
To raise awareness and support for these animals, gifts are being matched by an anonymous donor this week, up to $2,500.
Will you make a gift for Wrinkles and all the other animals we rescue that have experienced cruelty and neglect?
Every animal we rescue requires some level of medical attention, whether it's treatment, surgery, or basic care. Many of these animals have never received even the most fundamental healthcare, necessitating sterilization surgeries to prevent overpopulation, vital vaccines for their well-being, and preventive measures like heartworm and flea/tick treatments.
These funds are crucial for sustaining our life-saving efforts, ensuring emergency and routine care for our city's most vulnerable cats and dogs.
Wrinkles stands as proof that from pain, healing can blossom. Despite his past suffering, he exudes a gentle nature and remains faithfully by his foster mom's side. With a curious spirit, he delights in exploring his backyard, embodying resilience and curiosity in every step.
