Position Overview

The Live Release Coordinator is a full-time position, reporting to the Lead Live Release Coordinator and Center Manager. This position is responsible for facilitating core aspects of the animal husbandry, adoption, and customer services operations at SAPA!’s Rescue Center. This includes ensuring all Rescue Center protocols and expectations are met daily.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with relocating animals to the ACS clinic for sterilization and ensure proper drop off and pick-up of all surgery-approved Rescue Center Animals.
  • Responsible for cleaning of animals as assigned, which are housed at the SAPA! Rescue Center.
  • Responsible for exercising, walking, and rotating dogs in SAPA’s Rescue Center.
  • Responsible for feeding and watering the animals in the Rescue Center as assigned.
  • Performs general cleaning of the interior and exterior of the kennel by relocating animals, cleaning, and disinfecting cages and kennel areas.
  • Receives, handles, and treats animals with skill, compassion, and care.
  • Assists with performing diagnostic tests- Heartworm, FELV/FIV, Fecal floats, skin scrapes, etc.
  • Observe animal appearance and activity for general physical condition, obvious signs of illness, disease, and behavior.
  • May be asked to assist with intake processes for each animal evaluated and placed with SAPA.
  • Provides ongoing animal husbandry care, including ear cleaning, nail trims, and other grooming care.
  • Ensures accurate record keeping and maintains quality control of related data entry in the shelter database.
  • Must be able to appropriately assist in the restraint of any animal in SAPA! Building one’s care.
  • Must be comfortable working with dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens of all breeds, sizes, and temperaments.
  • Willing to work one-on-one with animals to better acquaint them with human or animal interaction.
  • Assist with completing animal behavior assessments, including but not limited to dog/dog introductions and dog/human interactions.
  • Responsible for filling out the animal placement tracker spreadsheet promptly throughout the workday.
  • Responsible for prompt and proper receiving and kenneling of new animals brought into Building One.
  • Responsible for transporting animals to adopters, fosters, and rescue partners’ vehicles as needed.
  • Maintain clean, orderly, and sanitized work areas throughout Building One and the surrounding areas,s including the dog play yards.
  • Accurately documenting the incoming and outgoing of animals in SAPA’s animal database.
  • Completes on-site adoption and pre-adoption meet and greets.
  • Completes on-site adoptions and pre-adoptions.
  • Always provides exceptional customer service.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Must have a minimum of one year of experience in animal welfare
  • Strong attention to detail
  • A passion for San Antonio Pets Alive!’s mission
  • Conveys optimism and demonstrates resilience. Recovers quickly from setbacks and overcomes obstacles
  • Organized yet flexible. Willing to pivot or adjust plan to respond to changing priorities or the needs of the animals
  • Must be able to keep information confidential

Personal Attributes

  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds repeatedly
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, kneel, reach above/below the waist, perform pushing/pulling movements, lift, walk, stand for long periods of time
  • Must be able to work in all weather conditions; approximately 40% of this position includes outside work
