Position Overview
San Antonio Pets Alive! (SAPA!) is seeking an energetic, mission-driven Thrift Store Manager to lead the daily operations and ongoing success of our Second Chance Thrift Store. This role is essential in generating critical revenue that supports SAPA!’s lifesaving work for vulnerable dogs and cats. The Thrift Store Manager oversees all aspects of retail operations, volunteer engagement, customer service, donor relations, merchandising, facility needs, and revenue growth.

Key Responsibilities
Oversee the efficient, professional, and profitable daily operation of SAPA!’s Second Chance Thrift Store.
Build a strong SAPA! presence in the Marbach corridor and surrounding community by cultivating relationships that increase donations, encourage volunteerism, and promote SAPA!’s mission.
Develop and execute 12-month business plans focused on volunteer recruitment, promotions, community partnerships, and donation acquisition.
Recruit, train, schedule, and supervise staff and volunteers.
Maintain a safe, organized, welcoming, and mission-centered shopping and working environment.
Ensure compliance with SAPA!’s financial and donor stewardship procedures for income handling, deposits, receipts, and acknowledgements.
Oversee merchandise pricing, tagging, quality control, display standards, and product rotation.
Submit all required sales, inventory, and operational reports on schedule.
Partner with SAPA! leadership and the Development & Marketing Team on promotions, marketing, and messaging.
Manage all facility needs, including utilities, cleaning, maintenance, and required inspections.
Represent SAPA! in community groups, local business networks, and neighborhood partnerships.
Perform additional duties as assigned by the Executive Director.
Minimum Qualifications
Retail experience required; prior management experience strongly preferred.
Experience hiring, supervising, training, and coaching staff.
Ability to effectively manage, motivate, and work alongside volunteers.
Strong communication, problem-solving, customer service, and organizational skills.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, POS systems, and basic accounting software.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., stand or walk for long periods, and navigate stairs.
Valid driver’s license, clean driving record, and proof of insurance.
Qualifications & Experience
- Associate degree or equivalent experience required.
Nonprofit retail experience — especially thrift store operations.
Experience in animal welfare or familiarity with SAPA!’s lifesaving mission and programs.
