Compensation:
$125,000 – $175,000 annual base Salary
Plus
- Relocation allowance
- Monthly education loan repayment subsidy equal to the minimum loan payment due as a factored percentage of gross income. From the date of hire, your minimum loan payment will be covered by the organization. Applicable documentation must be provided to calculate and substantiate the subsidy amount and approval and will require a term agreement.

Schedule
Flexible Schedule (40 hours)
- 10 hour shift or 8-hour shift

Position Overview
- Perform surgeries and assist in surgeries that can be performed in-house.
- Manage ongoing cases daily and weekly and work with the Clinic Manager to ensure no cases fall through the cracks.
- Direct Clinic Manager in overseeing all disease specific wards (parvo & distemper) ensuring protocols.
- Must perform physical examinations and diagnostic/medical procedures in a way that delivers the highest quality care while minimizing patient stress and discomfort. Must be able to explain physical examination findings and communicate to the staff a diagnosis of the animal’s problems and must generate a treatment plan.
- Guide the evaluation and practice of shelter medical protocols that provide the best care for all SAPA animals.
- Coach the medical team and SAPA staff about disease prevention and ensure that medical plans are understood and executed.
- Work to update old procedures and keep SAPA! on the forefront of low-cost treatment.
- Assist organization in conserving funds and finding new opportunities to seek additional funds and in-kind donations.
- With the Clinic Manager to oversee the shelter dispensary and inventory while complying with DEA requirements. In addition, work closely with the Clinic Manager on ordering and inventory management protocols.
- Ensure all controlled substances are stored and logged in accordance with DEA regulations.
- Consult with other veterinarians or specialists on cases requiring more in-depth attention.
- Consult and perform humane euthanasia at the shelter as appropriate.
- Answer emails and phone calls as needed.
- Other duties as needed.

- Veterinary experience: 3 years (Required)

Qualifications & Experience
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine
- Texas Veterinary License
- DEA/DPS Certificate
- One to three years of professional experience.
- An open and creative mind.
- Ability to adapt to the shelter environment and react appropriately to emotionally charged situations.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Proven organizational, time management, and planning skills required.
- Use of good judgement and the ability to communicate effectively with the management team.
- Must be able to lift 40 lbs. and stand for extended periods of time
