Saving Lives Beyond Texas: San Antonio Pets Alive!’s Transport Program
San Antonio Pets Alive!’s Transport Program is giving local homeless pets a second chance—hundreds of miles away. By flying dogs and cats from overcrowded shelters in San Antonio to adoption-ready communities across the country, SAPA! is opening hearts, homes, and kennel space. ✈️🐾 San Antonio Pets Alive! (SAPA!) is proud to be saving lives not just in our city—but far beyond it. Our expanding Transport Program has become a beacon of hope for countless homeless pets who, in an overcrowded system like San Antonio’s, may not have had a second chance otherwise.
With local shelters pushed beyond capacity and thousands of stray and surrendered animals entering the system each year, the odds are stacked against many of these pets. But in other parts of the country—and even internationally—those same pets are in high demand. Communities in New York, Wisconsin, and even Canada don’t face the same overpopulation issues. This creates a life-saving opportunity: we can help fill the need for adoptable pets in those regions by transporting animals from our crowded shelters to places where they’ll have a much higher chance of being adopted.
Our first-ever flight transport launched on March 21st, sending 39 dogs of all ages and sizes to loving rescue partners in New York. Shortly after, we organized a kitten transport to Wisconsin, flying out more than 80 kittens to start their new lives in a community where they’ll be welcomed with open arms. Every successful transport opens up critical kennel space here in San Antonio, allowing SAPA! to continue pulling more vulnerable animals out of harm’s way.
These missions of hope can’t happen without the help of our dedicated community. Here’s how you can be part of this life-saving journey:
- Foster a transport pet. These short-term fosters provide a safe space for pets waiting to board their flight.
- Sponsor a transport. For just $250, you can fully sponsor a pet’s trip, covering vaccinations, preventative care, and the required health certificate for air travel.
With your help, we’re not just dreaming of a world where every pet has a home—we’re flying them there.
Join us in giving these animals the chance of a lifetime.
