May is National Pet Month, a time dedicated to celebrating the incredible joy, loyalty, and love that companion animals bring to our lives. Here at San Antonio Pets Alive! (SAPA!), It is also a powerful reminder of our daily mission: providing the programs and services needed to eliminate the killing of at-risk animals due to a lack of space, adopters, or fosters.
Every single day, our team is on the ground doing the vital work of rescuing pets directly from municipal euthanasia lists. When these vulnerable dogs and cats enter our care, they are given a true second chance at life. But we cannot do it alone—our lifesaving capacity relies entirely on our amazing community of adopters, fosters, and supporters.
This National Pet Month, we want to share how you can make a difference, highlight a very special resident who is long overdue for a couch of her own, and invite you to our biggest adoption event of the season!

Minti: Our Longest Stay Resident
While we celebrate the thousands of lives saved, our hearts are focused on the animals who are still waiting for their breakthrough moment. This month, we want to give a massive spotlight to Minti, our current longest-stay resident.
Minti has been in our care since December 2024. For over a year and a half, this incredible girl has watched other pets find their families, while she waits patiently for her own second chance. Minti is resilient, loving, and beyond ready to transition from a shelter kennel to a warm home.
By opening your heart to a long-stay pet like Minti, you aren’t just changing their world—you are freeing up critical space and resources so we can rescue the next at-risk animal from the euthanasia list.

Clear Your Calendars: Our Massive End-of-Month Adoption Event!
If you’ve been thinking about adding a new furry member to your family, the end of May is the absolute perfect time. We are thrilled to announce that we are teaming up with Walmart and Best Friends Animal Society for a massive collaborative adoption event!
We will have 50+ adoptable animals on-site, all eager to meet their future families and step into their forever homes.

How You Can Help This National Pet Month
Whether or not you are in a position to adopt right now, you have a vital role to play in our mission to save them all. Here is how you can stand with SAPA! this month:
- Adopt: Bypass the pet stores and breeders. When you adopt from SAPA!, you save two lives: the animal you take home, and the one we can pull from the euthanasia list into their empty kennel.
- Foster: Open your home temporarily. Fostering provides a safe, nurturing space for dogs and cats to decompress while they await permanent placement.
