During the summer months, our shelter experiences a massive spike in pets entering our care. Currently, shelters across the country are overcrowded, and we need your help more than ever.

Fostering Costs You $0 (We Provide Everything!)
Do you think you don’t have the budget to foster? Think again! Fostering with SAPA! costs you absolutely nothing. We provide all the supplies, food, crates, and medical care—all we ask is that you provide a safe, loving home.
Best of all, fostering has a massive ripple effect. Every time you welcome a foster pet into your home, you directly open up a physical kennel space at the shelter. That open space allows us to pull another urgent pet off the euthanasia list. When you foster one pet, you are truly saving two lives: the pet in your home and the next pet we get to rescue.
Choose Your Fostering Journey
We know everyone’s schedule is different, which is why SAPA! offers two fantastic ways to get involved. Additionally, both options contribute to volunteer service hours for both children and adults.
1. Traditional Fostering (Long-Term)
With traditional fostering, you care for a pet until they find their forever family. Inside a noisy, loud shelter, pets can get stressed and shut down. In your calm home environment, they get natural socialization, reveal their true, kind personalities, and become much more adoptable!
- Earn Volunteer Hours:
- Fostering a pet over 7 months old = Earn 2 volunteer hours per day.
- Foster a pet under 6 months old = Earn 3 volunteer hours per day.

2. Transport Fostering (Short-Term)
If you can’t commit to a long-term pet, our Transport Foster program is the perfect fit! You take a pet into your care for just 2 to 3 weeks with the knowledge that they are already spoken for by an out-of-state adopter or partner rescue. You are simply providing a safe place for them to complete their necessary quarantine period, keeping them safe from kennel-related illnesses before they hitch a ride to their new life. Service hours are available for this program as well!
